The ShipStation Shopify integration is ShipStation's app in the Shopify App Store. You install it, approve the store data it asks for, and your Shopify orders come into ShipStation, where you buy and print labels. ShipStation then sends the tracking back to Shopify, which marks the order shipped. Where it stops: stores report that changes made to an order in Shopify after it comes across don't follow it, and that tracking and the shipped email can stop reaching Shopify with no warning. Nobody checks that each order went out once, to the right address, with tracking. AI agents do that work.
What the ShipStation Shopify integration has to do
Shopify takes the order. ShipStation is where your team buys the label, packs the box and ships it. If the two don't agree, a box goes out twice, an order that was changed ships the old way, or a customer never gets the email that says their order is on the way.
So connected has to mean three things. Each paid order has to reach ShipStation. Any change to that order has to reach it too. And the tracking number has to come back to Shopify, so the order shows as shipped and the customer hears about it. ShipStation's app does the first and the third most days. The limits below are where stores find the gaps.
Three ways to connect ShipStation and Shopify
Most stores use the first one. The second is Shopify's own label buying, for stores that don't need a second app.
ShipStation's Shopify app
- How it works
- You install ShipStation Orders and Inventory from the Shopify App Store. It asks to view and edit your orders, products, customers and gift cards. Orders come into ShipStation, where you set rules to batch, tag and send orders to the right place, and print one label or many at once. It can also make return labels and branded tracking pages. Each plan has a 30-day free trial.
- Good for
- Stores that ship a lot of orders, sell in more than one place, like Amazon or TikTok Shop as well as Shopify, or want to compare rates across many carriers.
- Where it breaks
- On the App Store the app has 4.2 stars from 710 reviews, and 18 percent of them are one star. A 2026 review says order changes and location changes made in Shopify did not reach ShipStation, so items were shipped twice and unpaid orders went out. In a Shopify Community thread, several stores said tracking and the shipped email stopped reaching Shopify for months.
Shopify Shipping
- How it works
- Shopify Shipping lets you buy and print discounted labels from Shopify's carriers right in your Shopify admin, one at a time or in bulk. You can send return labels if you have a US or Canada location, buy labels with duties and taxes paid for international orders, and track each box from the order.
- Good for
- Smaller stores that ship from one place in the US or Canada and don't need rules, other sales channels or a packing screen.
- Where it breaks
- Shopify says the carriers you get depend on where you are, you need an eligible shipping location before you can buy labels, and the discounts depend on your Shopify plan. Using your own carrier account takes a separate setup.
A Zapier zap
- How it works
- Zapier can start when a new order is created or comes into ShipStation, and then do something in another app, like add a row to a sheet or post to your team. On the Shopify side it can create a fulfillment or find an order.
- Good for
- A team that wants one extra step the app doesn't do, like a daily list of orders that came into ShipStation.
- Where it breaks
- It only does the steps you build. Zapier says it checks for new data every 15 minutes on its Free plan for triggers that are not instant. It doesn't replace the ShipStation app, and if one step fails, nothing tells your team.
Arkeo agents
- How it works
- Agents check every day that each paid Shopify order is in ShipStation, was shipped once, and has tracking back on the Shopify order. They find orders sitting too long, check stock counts against the store, and tell your ops lead and the customer the same day.
- Good for
- Stores shipping every day, where one box sent twice or one order with no tracking costs a customer.
- Where it breaks
- Anything your rules keep for a person, like a refund on a lost box, goes to the owner in one message.
How to set up the ShipStation Shopify integration
ShipStation's help center has the screen by screen guide. These steps cover what to check on each side.
- 1
Check if Shopify Shipping is enoughIf you ship from one place in the US or Canada and only sell on Shopify, Shopify's own labels may do the job with no second app. Read what it covers first.
- 2
Install ShipStation from the Shopify App StoreOpen ShipStation Orders and Inventory in the Shopify App Store, click Install and log in to your store. Each plan starts with a 30-day free trial.
- 3
Read the data it asks forThe app asks to view and edit your orders, products, customers and gift cards, and to see the store owner's details. Check that is fine before you approve it.
- 4
Check your orders came acrossOpen ShipStation and look for your newest Shopify orders before you buy any labels. Then edit one test order in Shopify and see if the change shows up in ShipStation.
- 5
Ship one test order and check ShopifyBuy a label for a test order in ShipStation. Then open the order in Shopify and check three things: it shows the tracking number, it is marked fulfilled, and the customer got the shipped email.
- 6
Add Zapier for anything extra
If your team wants a step the app doesn't do, like a sheet of each new order, build it as a zap and test it with a real order.
Where the ShipStation Shopify integration stops
The app brings orders in and sends tracking back. Making sure each order shipped once, the way the customer wanted, is still a person's job.
Changes after the order comes across. A store with four months on the app wrote in a 2026 review that it would not carry over order updates or location changes from Shopify. They said that led to items shipped more than once and unpaid orders sent out. So when a customer changes their address or an order is edited, someone checks ShipStation by hand.
Tracking that stops coming back. In a Shopify Community thread, a store said tracking and shipping details from ShipStation suddenly stopped reaching Shopify, so customers got no shipped email. Three more stores said the same over the next few months. Shopify Plus support told one of them ShipStation had to solve it. One store got it working again by fulfilling an order by hand once with the notify customer box ticked.
A connection that drops. In a September 2026 review, a store said the ShipStation Connect app lost its connection after a few minutes, and they refreshed the Store Status page by hand each day. ShipStation replied that this is not expected.
Slow help when it breaks. Many of the one-star reviews from 2026 are about slow support, and two say a ticket waited about a month.
And none of it checks the work around shipping: orders sitting too long, returns, and stock counts that drift from the store.
The agents that do it
Each agent does one job from start to finish, in your own ShipStation and Shopify. Your team talks to them in Slack or Teams.

Questions
Is my customers' information safe?
Yes. Agents work in your own ShipStation and Shopify and see only what their job needs. Customer details never go into public AI. Agents connect to AI through business-grade connections audited under SOC 2.
How do I connect ShipStation to Shopify?
Install ShipStation Orders and Inventory from the Shopify App Store, log in to your store and approve the data it asks for. Then check your newest orders show up in ShipStation and ship one test order.
Why is ShipStation not sending tracking to Shopify?
Open the order in Shopify and check it is marked fulfilled with a tracking number. In a Shopify Community thread, one store fixed the missing shipped email by fulfilling an order by hand once with the notify customer box ticked. If it still fails, open a ticket with ShipStation, since Shopify sends app problems to the app's maker.
Do I need ShipStation, or is Shopify Shipping enough?
Shopify Shipping buys and prints labels right in your Shopify admin and may be enough for a store that ships from one place in the US or Canada. ShipStation is for stores that sell in more than one place, ship a lot of orders, or want rules and many carriers.
What does it cost?
You get the price on the call, along with the hours it saves your team.
