Shopify customers, orders and carts in HubSpot, checked

The short answer

To connect HubSpot to Shopify, you have three options. The main HubSpot integration with Shopify is HubSpot's own app, called Shopify in the HubSpot Marketplace. It brings customers, products, orders and abandoned checkouts into HubSpot within 10 minutes of a change. Shopify Sync by Unific moves more detail, and Zapier handles single jobs. Where it stops: orders come in as orders, not deals, a buyer with no email gets no contact, and order sync doesn't merge doubles. AI agents check what came in and make sure each left cart gets a follow-up.

What a HubSpot integration with Shopify has to do

Your shoppers buy on Shopify. Your marketing runs from HubSpot. When the two don't talk, your emails go to buyers as if they were strangers, and a shopper who left a full cart gets nothing.

So "connected" has to mean three things. Each Shopify customer is one contact in HubSpot, with their orders on it. Abandoned checkouts come across fast enough to follow up. And HubSpot's numbers match the store.

Three ways to connect HubSpot and Shopify

Two are apps in the HubSpot Marketplace, and one uses Zapier.

HubSpot's Shopify app (Shopify Data Sync)

How it works
You install Shopify from the HubSpot Marketplace, built by HubSpot, and turn on each part on the CRM syncs tab. Contacts, companies and products go both ways. Orders, and abandoned checkouts as carts, come from Shopify into HubSpot. After the first run, changes come across within 10 minutes.
Good for
Most stores. HubSpot's help says it works with all HubSpot products and plans.
Where it breaks
Orders come in as HubSpot orders, not deals, and can't be changed in HubSpot. Contacts are matched by email, so a buyer with no email comes in with no contact. Order and cart sync don't merge doubles. Company sync needs Shopify Plus, and Shopify meta fields don't come across.

Shopify Sync by Unific

How it works
Unific sells this app in the HubSpot Marketplace. It moves customers, companies, orders (as deals or orders), abandoned carts, products, variants and meta fields into HubSpot.
Good for
Stores that want orders as deals, or need the meta fields HubSpot's app leaves out.
Where it breaks
Past its free plan for small stores, it is one more paid app to manage. It moves the data you set; it doesn't check what came in, or that a left cart got its reminder.

A Zapier zap

How it works
Zapier has templates like Add new Shopify customers to HubSpot as contacts, Create or update HubSpot contacts from new paid orders on Shopify, and Create HubSpot tickets for new Shopify abandoned carts.
Good for
One extra step, like a ticket for your team when a big cart is left behind.
Where it breaks
Zapier marks Shopify as a Premium app. Each zap is one trigger and one action, so orders, carts and products are each more zaps to build and watch.

Arkeo agents

How it works
Agents read new orders, refunds, customers and abandoned checkouts in Shopify. They check each buyer is one contact in HubSpot with the right orders, add a note or task where something is off, and make sure each left cart gets its reminder. They log emails and calls on the contact and move deals to the right stage for stores that sell to businesses.
Good for
Stores where HubSpot runs the marketing and someone spends hours each week cleaning up doubles and missing orders.
Where it breaks
Anything your rules keep for a person, like a large refund or a customer who asked to stop all mail, goes to your team in one message.

How to connect HubSpot to Shopify with HubSpot's app: five steps

These are short. HubSpot's own pages have the full screens, linked under each step.

  1. 1

    Check your access

You need to be a Super Admin, or have App Marketplace permissions, in HubSpot. Custom field mappings need Data Hub Starter.

  2. 2

    Install the app

In the HubSpot Marketplace, search for Shopify, click Install and enter your store's Shopify URL. This also adds the HubSpot tracking code to your store.

  3. 3

    Turn on contacts first

On the CRM syncs tab, set up Contacts. On the Limit screen, tick Only sync contacts with an email address, so you don't get doubles. Then turn on products, and companies if you are on Shopify Plus.

    HubSpot's sync settings →

  4. 4

Clean up before orders and carts

If you ever imported Shopify orders into HubSpot, clean those up first. Order and cart sync bring in all matching records at once and don't merge doubles.

  5. 5

Add variants if you sell sizes or colors

Under Sync more data, you can bring Shopify product variants in as their own products, one way. Then check one test order lands on the right contact.

Where the HubSpot Shopify integration stops

Orders come in as orders, not deals. HubSpot's app brings Shopify orders in one way, and they can't be changed in HubSpot. On the HubSpot Marketplace the app averages 2.3 out of 5 from 56 reviews. The theme named most, in 21 reviews, is the move from deals to orders. Stores that ran reports on deals say they had to rebuild them, and 8 reviews name workflows that broke.

Doubles and gaps are left for you. Contacts are matched by email, so a buyer with no email comes in with no contact. Order and cart sync don't merge doubles, so orders you imported before can come in twice. Deletes don't carry over, and meta fields don't come across. HubSpot's own pages even disagree on product variants: the main guide says they can't sync, while a separate page shows a one-way variant sync. Test it on your store.

Some stores can't connect at all. On the Shopify App Store, HubSpot's app has 8 reviews, 7 of them one star, and most say it wouldn't connect to the store. And nothing in the app checks that each left cart got its reminder, or that HubSpot's numbers match the store. Someone on the team still does that by hand.

The agents that do it

Each agent does one job from start to finish, some in your HubSpot and some in your Shopify: the checking and follow-up the app leaves behind. Your team talks to them in Slack or Teams.

Questions

Is my customers' information safe?

Yes. Agents work in your own HubSpot and Shopify and see only what their job needs. Customer details never go into public AI. Agents connect to AI through business-grade connections audited under SOC 2.

Does HubSpot have a Shopify integration?

Yes. HubSpot builds its own app, called Shopify in the HubSpot Marketplace. The marketplace says it needs a Basic Shopify, Shopify or Advanced Shopify plan. Company sync needs Shopify Plus.

Do Shopify orders show up as deals in HubSpot?

Not with HubSpot's own app. Orders come in as orders, linked to the contact and cart, and you follow them in the default order pipeline. Shopify Sync by Unific can bring orders in as deals instead.

Can HubSpot send abandoned cart emails for Shopify?

Yes. HubSpot's app brings abandoned checkouts in as carts. You can build a segment of contacts from their cart data and use it in your marketing emails.

What does it cost?

You get the price on the call, along with the hours it saves your team.
