The Shopify Klaviyo integration is Klaviyo's own app. You connect it from the Integrations tab in Klaviyo or from the Shopify App Store. It brings your customers, orders, products and email subscribers into Klaviyo, tracks what shoppers do on your store, and can send profiles and subscription status back to Shopify. Zapier and a CSV import fill the gaps. Where it stops: past SMS subscribers don't come across, double opt-in leaves Shopify subscribers off your Klaviyo list, and a flow that stops sending doesn't tell anyone. AI agents check your lists and flows each day and tell your marketing lead what is off.
What a Shopify Klaviyo integration has to do
Klaviyo is only as good as what it knows from your store. Your welcome, cart and post-purchase emails all start from a Shopify event: a sign-up, a started checkout, a placed order. If one of those doesn't arrive, the email doesn't go out, and nothing on the screen looks wrong.
So connected has to mean more than installed. The people who said yes to marketing in Shopify have to be on your Klaviyo list, each order has to reach Klaviyo, and someone has to know when that stops.
Three ways to connect Shopify and Klaviyo
Almost all stores use the first one. The other two fill gaps it leaves.
Klaviyo's Shopify integration
- How it works
- Klaviyo's own app, listed as Klaviyo: Email Marketing & SMS in the Shopify App Store. It brings in customer and order data, email and SMS subscribers and your product catalog, and its app embed tracks things like Viewed Product and Added to Cart. You can also send profiles, subscription status and email events back to Shopify.
- Good for
- Nearly all Shopify stores on Klaviyo. It is rated 4.7 out of 5 from more than 3,400 reviews.
- Where it breaks
- Klaviyo allows one Shopify store per Klaviyo account. Past SMS subscribers don't sync. Klaviyo's suppressions don't reach Shopify, and deleting a person in one program doesn't delete them in the other. Email events take up to 24 hours to reach Shopify.
A Zapier zap
- How it works
- Zapier has Shopify steps like New Order, New Refund and New Tag Added to Customer, and Klaviyo steps like Add Profile to List, Create Event and Update Profile. You build each zap yourself.
- Good for
- Stores with one rule the app doesn't cover, like adding a customer to a list when a tag is added in Shopify.
- Where it breaks
- Each rule is a zap you build and keep up. A zap that sends the wrong event can start the wrong flow, and nobody sees it until a customer replies.
A CSV import
- How it works
- You export customers from Shopify, keep the right columns, and upload them to a list in Klaviyo. Klaviyo's guide uses this for past SMS subscribers.
- Good for
- A one-time catch-up when you first connect, or after a list goes wrong.
- Where it breaks
- It is a snapshot. Klaviyo says merging the imported list doesn't start list-triggered flows like an SMS welcome, and anyone who signs up after the export is missed.
Arkeo agents
- How it works
- Agents compare who accepts marketing in Shopify to who is on your Klaviyo lists, check that orders and checkouts keep arriving and each flow is still sending, and follow up abandoned checkouts by email and text.
- Good for
- Stores where most email revenue comes from flows, and nobody has time to check them each day.
- Where it breaks
- Anything your rules keep for a person, like importing people with unclear consent, goes to your marketing lead in one message.
How to connect Shopify to Klaviyo: five steps
These follow Klaviyo's own guides. Open them for the screens.
- 1
Disconnect any other email app firstIf another email service is connected to your store, disconnect it. Klaviyo warns that otherwise double opt-in emails may go to your existing list.
- 2
Install the app from KlaviyoIn Klaviyo, open the Integrations tab, click Explore apps, find Shopify and click Install. Enter your store address in the mystore.myshopify.com form, click Connect to Shopify, then Install app and Integrate.
- 3
Set what syncs each wayCheck Sync your Shopify email subscribers to Klaviyo and select the list that starts your welcome series. Add SMS only after text messaging is set up. Turn on Sync Klaviyo profiles to Shopify only if you want data sent back, and read what All profiles does first. Click Update Settings.
- 4
Turn on onsite trackingCheck Track behavioral events, click Turn on, and make sure the Klaviyo app embed is on under App embeds in your Shopify theme. Do this again for any new theme.
- 5
Bring in past SMS subscribers by handExport customers from Shopify, keep only rows where Accepts SMS Marketing is yes, upload them to a new Klaviyo list with Only import the consent in my file, then merge it into your SMS list.
Where the Shopify Klaviyo integration stops
The app moves the data. Making sure the right people get the right emails is the work in the middle, and it is still done by hand.
Your lists don't match. Klaviyo's guides say past SMS subscribers don't sync, so someone exports, edits and imports a CSV, and merging that list doesn't start the welcome flow. In Klaviyo's community, store owners ask why their Klaviyo list is smaller than their Shopify subscriber count. The answer from Klaviyo staff: lists are managed apart in each program, and with double opt-in, people who never confirm stay off the list.
Some things don't cross at all. Klaviyo says its suppressions don't sync to Shopify, deleting a profile in one program doesn't delete it in the other, and choosing All profiles creates a Shopify customer for each Klaviyo profile, even people who never shopped.
And it can stop quietly. Klaviyo's troubleshooting page lists a connection that expires and needs to be signed in again, and onsite tracking that stops when you add a new theme without the app embed. One community post describes an integration marked Enabled, with the past sync marked Complete, while orders had stopped coming in. The cart and post-purchase flows simply go quiet.
After setup, the costs move too. Many one and two star reviews in the Shopify App Store are about bills based on active profiles, a store that loads slower, and code left behind after removing the app.

Questions
Is my customers' information safe?
Yes. Agents work in your own Shopify and Klaviyo and see only what their job needs. Customer details never go into public AI. Agents connect to AI through business-grade connections audited under SOC 2.
Why is my Klaviyo list smaller than my Shopify subscribers?
Usually double opt-in. Klaviyo staff explain in its community that lists are managed apart in each program, so people who never confirm the opt-in email stay off your Klaviyo list. Past SMS subscribers also don't sync until you import them.
Can I connect two Shopify stores to one Klaviyo account?
No. Klaviyo's troubleshooting page says it supports one Shopify store per Klaviyo account. Each store needs its own account.
Does Klaviyo send data back to Shopify?
Yes, if you turn on Sync Klaviyo profiles to Shopify. It can send contact details, subscription status, locale and email and text events. Klaviyo says profile changes usually arrive within a minute, and events within 24 hours.
What does it cost?
You get the price on the call, along with the hours it saves your team.
