One stock count across your store and your shop floor

ShopifySquare
The short answer

To connect Shopify and Square, you need an app in between. The main Square Shopify integration is an app from the Square App Marketplace, like SKU IQ or QuickSync, which changes the stock count in one when an item sells in the other. You can also build Zapier zaps for one direction at a time. Where it stops: items only line up if they're linked or share a SKU, lower plans sync counts only, and app store reviews say counts can drift with no warning. AI agents check the counts each day and tell your team what to fix or reorder.

Why a Shopify and Square integration matters

Many shops sell in person on Square and online on Shopify. Each one keeps its own stock count. With no link, an item sells out in the store and is still for sale online. Someone counts shelves and types numbers into two places, and a customer still gets an email saying their order can't ship.

So a good connection does two things. It changes the count in both places each time an item sells, in the store or online. And it checks that the counts still agree, so a wrong number gets fixed the same day, not when a customer finds it.

Ways to connect Square to Shopify

Square and Shopify don't connect on their own. These are the apps that link them.

SKU IQ

How it works
An app in the Square App Marketplace, made by o2o Commerce. It keeps stock, orders and products the same between Square and your Shopify store. You select which items to link in its dashboard, and new Square items can link on their own. It also shows online and in-store sales in one place.
Good for
Shops with one or more Square locations and a Shopify store, in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom or Australia.
Where it breaks
Its Basic plan syncs counts only. Most product details need Plus, and pictures need Pro. Close to one in five reviews on its Shopify App Store page give it one star, and some of those say stock was added back after a sale instead of taken off.

QuickSync

How it works
An app in the Square App Marketplace that connects Square with Shopify and other places you sell, like Amazon, Etsy and eBay. When an item sells on Square, it changes the count on Shopify, and online sales change Square too. Its Shopify listing says it matches variants by SKU.
Good for
Shops in the United States that sell on Shopify and on other sites too.
Where it breaks
Product and order sync need its Pro plan, and each plan has a cap on how many variants sync. It copies your main store, so a wrong count or price there goes everywhere. A few low-star reviews say items fell out of sync with no notice.

A Zapier zap

How it works
Shopify is a Premium app on Zapier. Its ready-made zaps update Shopify stock when a Square order comes in, update Square stock for each paid Shopify order, and add Shopify customers to Square.
Good for
A small shop with a short list of items that wants one simple rule.
Where it breaks
Each zap is one trigger and one action, and each direction is its own zap. Returns, new items and price changes are each more steps you build and check.

Arkeo agents

How it works
Agents read the day's sales and stock in Square, check the counts, find items running low or counts that don't agree, and tell your ops lead what to fix or reorder, with the item and the store it came from.
Good for
Shops where the store and the website have to show the same stock, and nobody has the hours to check.
Where it breaks
Anything your rules keep for a person, like a big count change or an item it can't match, goes to your team in one message.

How to connect Square to Shopify

Each app's listing has the details. The order is the same for most apps.

  1. 1

Give each item the same SKU in both

Apps link items by SKU or by what you link in their dashboard. A mismatch now means a wrong count later.

    QuickSync's Shopify listing →

  2. 2

Get the app from the Square App Marketplace

Open the app's listing, follow its link to sign up, and sign in to your Square account when asked.

SKU IQ in the Square App Marketplace →

  3. 3

Connect your Shopify store and link items

Add your Shopify store and approve the access it asks for. Then link items and set which store is in charge of stock.

SKU IQ on the Shopify App Store →

  4. 4

    Test a few items

Sell one item in the store and one online. Check that both counts changed in Square and in Shopify before you turn it on for everything.

Where the Square Shopify integration stops

The app moves counts between the two. The work left over is checking that the counts are right, and the reviews on the Shopify App Store show why.

Counts can drift with no warning. On SKU IQ's page, 23 of 125 reviews give one star, and some say that after a sale, stock was added back instead of taken off, so they sold items they didn't have and cancelled orders. QuickSync rates well overall, but its low-star reviews say items fell out of sync with no notice and support said to resync.

Links break and need a person. Reviewers of both apps say the link between stores dropped and only a resync or the app's staff could fix it.

Only linked items move. QuickSync matches variants by SKU, and SKU IQ moves the items you link. An item set up differently in each store isn't counted until someone links it.

Plans set what moves. SKU IQ's Basic plan syncs counts only, and QuickSync needs Pro for products and orders, with a cap on variants per plan. So most weeks, someone still compares the best sellers in both places and fixes the counts by hand.

Questions

Is my customers' information safe?

Yes. Agents work in your own Square and Shopify and see only what their job needs. Customer details never go into public AI. Agents connect to AI through business-grade connections audited under SOC 2.

Does Square integrate with Shopify?

Not on its own. You connect them with an app from the Square App Marketplace, like SKU IQ or QuickSync, or with Zapier zaps.

Can I sync inventory between Shopify and Square?

Yes. SKU IQ and QuickSync both change the stock count in one when an item sells in the other. Zapier has zaps for it too, one for each direction.

Do my products need to match?

Yes. QuickSync matches variants by SKU, and SKU IQ moves the items you link in its dashboard. Give each item the same SKU in both before you connect, so the counts line up.

What does it cost?

You get the price on the call, along with the hours it saves your team.
