Notion has no built-in Google Sheets and Notion integration that keeps the two in sync. You have four ways to connect them: import the sheet once as a CSV, embed the sheet on a Notion page, use a sync app such as Sync2Sheets from Notion's integrations gallery, or build a Zapier zap. Where they stop: an import is a copy that goes out of date, an embed only shows the sheet, and sync apps and zaps move rows but don't check them. Someone still finds the duplicates, the blank owners and the numbers that don't match. AI agents do that check each day.
What a Google Sheets and Notion integration has to do
Most teams end up with both. The numbers live in Google Sheets: the order list, the weekly totals, the budget. The work lives in Notion: the projects, the tasks, who owns what. When the two don't talk, someone copies rows from the sheet into a Notion database every week, or pastes Notion's status into the sheet before the Monday meeting.
So connecting them has to mean more than getting rows from one place to the other. Each row should land once, not twice. A change on one side should show up on the other. And when something doesn't match, a person should hear about it before the report goes out, not after.
Four ways to connect Google Sheets and Notion
The first two come with Notion. The last two are apps you add.
Import the sheet as a CSV
- How it works
- Download the sheet from Google Sheets as a CSV file. In Notion, go to Settings, then Import, then CSV, or type /csv on a page. You can make a new database or merge the rows into one you already have, and you match each column to a Notion property.
- Good for
- Moving a list into Notion once, like a client list or a project backlog.
- Where it breaks
- Notion's help says imports add rows and don't update the ones already there, so a second import makes duplicates. Formulas don't come across and have to be rebuilt in Notion. Files are capped at 5 MB on the Free plan and 50 MB on paid plans.
Embed the sheet on a Notion page
- How it works
- On a Notion page, type /drive and paste the link to your Google Sheet. You can connect more than one Google account. Notion's help says changes to the source show up in Notion too.
- Good for
- Showing the weekly numbers next to the project page, so people don't open two tabs.
- Where it breaks
- It shows the sheet. It doesn't turn the rows into Notion items you can filter, give an owner or link to a task. Notion's help also says embeds that need a login don't work in its desktop or phone apps.
A sync app like Sync2Sheets
- How it works
- Sync2Sheets is a Google Sheets add-on listed in Notion's integrations gallery. You install it from the Google Workspace Marketplace, open it in a sheet, connect your Notion workspace and add a database. Its listing says you set the direction for each column, and Notion formulas and rollups always go from Notion to the sheet.
- Good for
- Teams that want a Notion database and a sheet to hold the same rows, with edits going both ways.
- Where it breaks
- It copies what's there, right or wrong. A blank owner or a typo in the sheet lands in Notion the same way. It is an add-on with a free trial, made by an outside developer, and someone has to notice if it stops.
A Zapier zap
- How it works
- Zapier connects Google Sheets triggers, like New Spreadsheet Row or New or Updated Spreadsheet Row, to Notion actions, like Create Data Source Item or Update Data Source Item. It works the other way too, with Notion triggers and Google Sheets actions.
- Good for
- One job in one direction, like each new form entry in a sheet becoming a task in Notion.
- Where it breaks
- Zapier's help says new rows only trigger when added at the bottom of the sheet, and that deleting or sorting rows, or renaming the sheet, can make the zap miss rows or stop.
Arkeo agents
- How it works
- Agents read your sheet and your Notion databases each day. They add new rows to the right database once, update the ones that changed, and check both sides for blanks, repeats and numbers that don't match. When a task in Notion is late or has no owner, they ask the owner and update the status.
- Good for
- Teams that run their numbers in Google Sheets and their work in Notion, and want both to be right without someone checking by hand.
- Where it breaks
- Anything your rules keep for a person, like a row that matches two Notion items, goes to your team in one message.
How to set up a Google Sheets to Notion integration: five steps
These follow Notion's and Zapier's own help pages. Open them for the screens.
- 1
Clean up the sheet firstGive each column one clear header and each row one thing, like one task or one client. Add a column with a unique ID if you plan to sync. Zapier's help says sorting the sheet or deleting rows can make a zap miss rows later.
- 2
Bring the rows into Notion onceDownload the sheet as a CSV. In Notion, go to Settings, then Import, then CSV. Make a new database and match each column to a property. Rebuild any formulas in Notion.
- 3
Give the app access to the databaseIf you use a sync app or a zap, open the Notion database, select the three dots at the top right, then Add connections under Connections, and find the app.
- 4
Set up the sync or the zapFor Sync2Sheets, install it in Google Sheets, open it from the sidebar, connect Notion and add the database. For a zap, set the Google Sheets trigger and the Notion action, and add new rows at the bottom of the sheet.
- 5
Check a week of rows by hand
After the first week, count the rows in the sheet and in Notion. Look for repeats, blanks and rows that came across twice. Then check again each month.
What still has to be done by hand
Imports don't keep up. Notion's help says a CSV import adds rows and doesn't update existing ones, so the second time someone imports this week's sheet, last week's rows come in again. Teams that use import as their "sync" end up with a Notion database full of repeats, and someone sorts them out by hand.
Zaps lose track of rows. Zapier's help says it spots new rows by where they sit in the sheet: new rows only count when added at the bottom, and deleting rows, sorting the sheet or renaming a tab can make a zap miss rows or stop finding the sheet. In a sheet that five people sort and edit all week, that happens often, and the zap doesn't tell anyone. Our guide to Zapier and the apps people use instead covers why.
Nothing checks the rows. A sync app copies a blank owner, a wrong date or a typo in a price the same way it copies a good row. Notion formulas only go one way, from Notion to the sheet, so a total built in the sheet can't feed Notion. The same gap shows up when you connect Airtable to Google Sheets: the rows move, and a person still checks them.
Limits show up as the team grows. Notion's developer docs cap each connection at an average of 3 requests a second on most plans, so a large sheet takes time to move and can hit the limit. Zapier's help says Google Sheets triggers handle files up to 30 MB. Public reviews of Sync2Sheets are thin: its Google Workspace Marketplace listing shows a 4.5 rating from under 80 ratings, so the limits above come from the vendors' own pages.
The agents that do it
Each agent does one job from start to finish, in your own Google Sheets and Notion. Your team talks to them in Slack or Teams, the way many teams already send requests from Slack into Notion.

Questions
Is my customers' information safe?
Yes. Agents work in your own Google Sheets and Notion and see only what their job needs. Customer details never go into public AI. Agents connect to AI through business-grade connections audited under SOC 2.
Can Notion sync with Google Sheets on its own?
Not both ways. Notion can import a sheet once as a CSV, and it can show a sheet on a page with the /drive embed. To keep a sheet and a Notion database in sync, you need an add-on like Sync2Sheets, a zap, or agents.
Why do I get duplicates when I import my sheet into Notion again?
Notion's help says imports add rows and don't update existing ones. Each new import brings in all the rows again. Use a sync app with a unique ID column, or have agents add only the new rows.
Can I connect Google Sheets to Notion for free?
The CSV import and the Google Drive embed come with Notion. Sync apps and Zapier have their own plans, set by those companies.
What does it cost?
You get the price on the call, along with the hours it saves your team.
