The Slack to Notion integration is Notion's own app for Slack. Once you connect it, you can send any Slack message to a Notion database, make a Notion task from Slack, and get Slack alerts when something changes in Notion. Where it stops: a person has to send each message by hand, the commands don't work inside Slack threads, alerts can't go to private messages, and each teammate has to connect their own account. Nobody makes sure each request in Slack gets an owner and a due date. AI agents do that work.
What a Slack to Notion integration has to do
Your team asks for things in Slack. The work is tracked in Notion. If the two don't meet, a request in a busy channel never becomes a task, or a task changes in Notion and the person waiting on it never hears.
So connected has to mean two things. Each real request in Slack has to land in the right Notion database with an owner. And the changes that matter in Notion have to show up in Slack, in the channel where people will see them. Notion's app can do both, but only when someone sets it up and clicks the button each time.
Three ways to connect Slack and Notion
Most teams start with the first one. The second is built into Notion's databases. The third is for copying messages with no one clicking.
Notion's Slack integration
- How it works
- You connect your Slack account in Notion. Then in Slack you type /notion create, or click the three dots next to a message and then Send to Notion, and file it in a Notion database. /notion task makes a task with an owner, status and due date. Pasted links show a preview in both apps.
- Good for
- Teams that plan in Notion and talk in Slack, where a few people file requests by hand.
- Where it breaks
- Notion says /notion create and /notion task work only in a channel, not inside a thread. Each teammate has to connect Slack on their own. You can't install only one part of it. And each message still needs a person to send it.
Notion's Slack alerts and automations
- How it works
- In a Notion database, you add an automation: when a page is added or a property is edited, Send Slack notification to a channel. You can do the same from a button. You can also turn on Slack alerts for your own mentions under Settings, then Notifications.
- Good for
- Teams that want a channel to hear when a task is added, done or moved to a new owner.
- Where it breaks
- Notion says automation actions are only on paid plans, alerts can't go to private messages, and you need Full Access to a database to set one up. There is no one place to see all the alerts set up in your workspace.
A Zapier zap
- How it works
- Zapier can start when a new message is posted to a channel, a reaction is added, or a message is pushed from Slack, and then make an item in a Notion database. It can also post to Slack when a new item lands in Notion.
- Good for
- A team that wants all messages in one channel, or all messages with one emoji, copied into Notion with no one clicking.
- Where it breaks
- In Zapier's Community, people report the zap brings in the first message but not the thread replies or files. Each message also makes its own Notion item, so a long talk becomes many items. Zapier checks for new data every 15 minutes on its Free plan for triggers that are not instant.
Arkeo agents
- How it works
- Agents read the channels you add them to, spot real requests, log each one in your Notion tracker with an owner and a due date the same day, and reply in the thread so the person asking knows it's handled. Each morning they find late tasks in Notion and tell the owner in Slack.
- Good for
- Teams where requests come in all day across channels and threads, and some never become a task.
- Where it breaks
- Anything your rules keep for a person, like who takes a large job, goes to the owner in one message.
How to set up the Slack integration with Notion
These follow Notion's own guide. Open it for the screens.
- 1
Connect your Slack accountIn Notion, go to Settings in your sidebar, then Notifications. Find Slack notifications, click Add new account, and sign in to Slack.
- 2
Send a Slack message to a Notion databaseIn a Slack channel, type /notion create, or click the three dots next to a message and then Send to Notion. You may need More message shortcuts to find it. Search for the database, give the page a title, add any properties and click Save.
- 3
Make a Notion task from SlackType /notion task, or use Create task in Notion from the three dots. Search for the project, then give the task a name, an owner, a status and a due date. Tick Confirm page creation publicly so the channel sees it.
- 4
Send Slack alerts from a Notion databaseOn a paid plan, click the three dots at the top of the database, then Automations and New automation. Add a trigger like Page added, then Add action and Send Slack notification to, and set the channel.
- 5
Have each teammate connectWhen one person connects, everyone sees link previews, but each person has to connect Slack on their own to use the commands. Send your team the first step.
- 6
Add Zapier for channels no one files by hand
If you want all messages in one channel copied over, build a zap from a Slack channel to a Notion database and test it on a message with replies.
Where the Slack to Notion integration stops
The app moves a message when someone tells it to. Deciding which messages are real requests, and making sure each one gets done, is still a person's job.
Someone has to click. Each Send to Notion is done by hand. In a busy channel, a request that nobody files is a request that gets lost.
Threads are left out. Notion's guide says /notion create and /notion task only work at the channel level, not inside Slack threads, and most of the real detail is in the thread. In Zapier's Community, a 2024 thread asked how to bring the replies and images along with a message. The zap only copied the first message. Zapier's team suggested an extra step. The person could not get it to work and stopped using Zapier.
One message, one item. In another Zapier Community thread, a person wanted several Slack messages in one Notion item and got a new item for each message. The answer was a separate Digest step.
Alerts you can't see in one place. Notion says alerts can't go to private messages, and there is no single place to see all the Slack alerts set up across your databases.
And none of it chases the work: who owns the request, whether it is late, and when the person who asked gets an answer.
The agents that do it
Each agent does one job from start to finish, in your own Slack and Notion.
Ask once in Slack. Someone owns it.
- Takes requests posted in your Slack channelas they come
- Turns each one into a task with an ownerright away
- Follows up until it's doneevery day
Your tracker stays right, so you can trust it.
- Checks your project trackerevery morning
- Finds tasks past due or with no ownerper project
- Asks the owner and updates the statussame day
Call notes land in Notion, without anyone typing.
- Reads the call recapafter each call
- Writes the notes on the client's Notion pagewithin the hour
- Adds each action item to your trackerright away
Questions
Is my customers' information safe?
Yes. Agents work in your own Slack and Notion and see only the channels and pages you share with them. Customer details never go into public AI. Agents connect to AI through business-grade connections audited under SOC 2.
How do I connect Slack to Notion?
In Notion, go to Settings, then Notifications, find Slack notifications and click Add new account. Sign in to Slack. Then use /notion create or Send to Notion on any message to file it in a database.
Can I send a Slack thread to Notion?
Not with the commands. Notion's guide says /notion create and /notion task work only at the channel level, not inside threads. A zap can copy messages, but people in Zapier's Community report it brings the first message without the replies unless you add more steps.
Can Notion send Slack alerts to a private message?
Not from a database automation or a button. Notion says you can't set private messages as the place to send them. You can get Slack alerts for your own mentions under Settings, then Notifications.
What does it cost?
You get the price on the call, along with the hours it saves your team.
