The Google Calendar integration with Slack is Slack's own Google Calendar app. One person adds it from the Slack Marketplace, then each person connects their own calendar. It shows your day in Slack, sends event reminders, lets you answer invites, and sets your status to In a meeting or Out of Office. Workflow Builder and Zapier add more, like posting events to a channel. Where they stop: status only follows your main calendar and only events you accepted, nothing checks the calendar against the work, and when the sync stops, nobody is told. AI agents do that checking and the follow-up.
What a Google Calendar integration with Slack has to do
Most teams want two things when they connect Google Calendar to Slack. Each person should see their day and get a nudge before a meeting, without opening another tab. And the team should be able to tell who is free, who is out, and what is on the shared calendar, right in the channels they already read.
Slack's app does the first part well. The second part, the team view, is where it gets thin. A calendar is also more than a list of times. Someone has to notice the double booking, get the notes ready, and follow up after the meeting. No connector does that part.
Three ways to connect Slack to Google Calendar
Most teams start with Slack's own app and add the others for jobs it doesn't do.
Google Calendar for Slack
- How it works
- Slack's own app in the Slack Marketplace. One member installs it, then each person opens it from Agents & tools and connects their own Google account. It shows Today, Tomorrow or any date, sends reminders, adds a join option for video meetings, lets you answer invites, and can set your status. Added to a channel, it can post notices from a shared calendar.
- Good for
- Teams that want each person's day, reminders and meeting status in Slack, with no setup beyond a sign-in.
- Where it breaks
- Status sync works only on your primary calendar and only for events you accept or mark Busy. It won't change a status you set yourself, and it never shows the meeting name. Daily schedule messages, and daily or weekly notices to a channel, are on paid plans only. If events go missing, Slack's fix is to revoke the app and add it again.
Slack Workflow Builder
- How it works
- The Google Calendar listing in the Slack Marketplace comes with two workflow templates: create a Google Calendar event from Slack, and let people add themselves to a meeting with an emoji reaction.
- Good for
- Teams that book the same kind of meeting often and want a form or a reaction to do it.
- Where it breaks
- Workflow Builder is on paid plans only. It makes events; it doesn't watch the calendar or tell anyone when a meeting moves. A workflow that fails shows the error only in its activity log.
A Zapier zap or a Make scenario
- How it works
- Zapier's Google Calendar triggers include Event Start, Event Ended, Event Cancelled and New or Updated Event. Its Slack actions include Send Channel Message, Send Direct Message and Set Status.
- Good for
- Teams that want something the app doesn't do, like posting each cancelled meeting to a channel, or setting a custom status from the event title.
- Where it breaks
- Most calendar triggers check on a timer, so a message can come minutes late, and only paid plans can change how often. A trigger fires when an event is made or starts, so a reminder weeks before an event needs a second step. In Make's forum, people building status and reminder automations post that the trigger came back empty and the status never changed.
Arkeo agents
- How it works
- Agents read the team's calendars each day, check them against the work, and post what needs a person in Slack: the double booking, the meeting with no notes, the client who didn't show.
- Good for
- Teams where the calendar drives the work, like client meetings, site visits or staff schedules.
- Where it breaks
- Anything your rules keep for a person, like moving a client's meeting, goes to your team in Slack to approve first.
How to connect Google Calendar to Slack: five steps
These follow Slack's own help pages for the Google Calendar app. Open them for the screens.
- 1
Install the app onceOne member adds Google Calendar from the Slack Marketplace, allows access, and goes back to Slack. If your workspace needs app approval, an owner or admin approves it first.
- 2
Each person connects their calendarOpen Agents & tools in the sidebar (Tools on some layouts), then Apps, and select Google Calendar. On the Home tab, connect your Google account. Add other calendars from Settings.
- 3
Turn on status syncIn the app's Settings, turn on Status Sync. It works from your primary calendar. Titles with OOO or PTO set Out of Office.
- 4
Add the app to a team channelAdd Google Calendar to the channel, then set which notices from a shared calendar post there. Daily and weekly schedule notices need a paid plan.
- 5
Add a workflow or a zap for the rest
For booking from Slack, start from the app's workflow templates. For anything else, like posting cancelled meetings, build a zap from Zapier's Google Calendar and Slack page.
Where the Google Calendar Slack integration stops
The app is built for one person and their own day. Status sync works only on your primary calendar. Only events you accept, or that mark you Busy, change your status. It won't change a status you set yourself, and your status never shows the meeting name. Even Slack's two pages don't agree on overlapping events: the help page says your status won't update, and the Marketplace listing says the longer or earlier event sets it.
The team view is thin. A channel only gets notices from a shared calendar, and the daily or weekly ones need a paid plan. So someone still looks across calendars by hand to see who is double booked, who is out, and which meetings have nothing ready.
When it stops, nobody is told. Slack's fix for missing or old events is to revoke the app and add it again. From June 13 to June 15, 2023, Slack's status page logged about 38 hours when statuses, reminders and agendas failed to sync from the Google Calendar and Outlook Calendar apps.
Building it yourself has its own gaps. Most zaps check for new events on a timer, and a trigger fires only when an event is made or starts. Make's forum has threads from people whose calendar status automation never changed the status, and whose trigger came back empty.

Questions
Is my customers' information safe?
Yes. Agents work in your own Google Calendar and Slack and see only the calendars and channels you give them. Customer details never go into public AI. Agents connect to AI through business-grade connections audited under SOC 2.
Is the Google Calendar integration for Slack free?
The app works on all Slack plans. Daily schedule messages, daily or weekly notices to a channel, and Workflow Builder are on paid plans.
Why doesn't my Slack status change when I'm in a meeting?
Slack's help page lists the reasons: status sync is off, the event isn't on your primary calendar, you didn't accept it or mark it Busy, you set your own status, or another event overlaps it.
How do I connect Slack to Google Calendar for the whole team?
Each person connects their own calendar in the app. For a team view, add the app to a channel and connect a shared calendar, so its events post there.
What does it cost?
You get the price on the call, along with the hours it saves your team.
