ClickUp has no integration with WhatsApp built in. ClickUp's own feedback board has a request for one with about 2,500 votes, and ClickUp's product team says it is not planned for the near term. To connect them today, you can use a Zapier zap: the WhatsApp Business app can make a ClickUp task when a message comes in, and send a WhatsApp message when a task changes. Where it stops: one chat often holds several requests, replies are limited to 24 hours after the customer's last message unless you use an approved template, and nobody checks that each request became a task and got an answer. AI agents do that sorting and following up.
Why a ClickUp integration with WhatsApp matters
For many small businesses, the requests don't arrive in ClickUp. They arrive on WhatsApp: a client asks for a change, a supplier says an order is late, a customer reports a problem. Someone reads the chat, opens ClickUp, makes a task, and copies the message in. Later, someone else goes back to WhatsApp to tell the client it's done.
People on ClickUp's feedback board describe exactly that. They want to mark a message as a new order, an incident or a lead and have a task appear, and they want task alerts and reminders to reach clients and suppliers on WhatsApp. So a real connection has to work both ways, and it has to work per request, not per chat.
Three ways to connect them
There is no app from ClickUp or Meta for this, so each way goes through something in between.
A Zapier zap with WhatsApp Business
- How it works
- Zapier's WhatsApp Business app has a New Message Received trigger and actions to send a freeform, media or template message. Pair it with ClickUp's Create Task, Post a Task Comment or Task Changes trigger.
- Good for
- Teams with a WhatsApp Business number that want each new message to land in one ClickUp list.
- Where it breaks
- Each message becomes its own task unless you build steps to group them. Zapier's page says freeform replies can only go out within 24 hours of the customer's last message. Its test step shows a placeholder, because WhatsApp doesn't share message history.
WhatsApp Notifications on Zapier
- How it works
- A separate Zapier app with one action, Send Message, which needs a template. A ClickUp trigger like New Task or Task Changes can send a WhatsApp alert.
- Good for
- Teams that only want to tell someone on WhatsApp when a task is made or finished.
- Where it breaks
- It only sends. Nothing comes back from WhatsApp into ClickUp.
Copy it across by hand
- How it works
- Someone reads each chat and makes the task in ClickUp, then goes back to WhatsApp to reply when it's done.
- Good for
- A handful of requests a week, or chats that come in on a personal WhatsApp number.
- Where it breaks
- Requests get missed when the phone is busy, and the client hears nothing until someone remembers.
Arkeo agents
- How it works
- Agents read new WhatsApp messages, split a chat into the separate requests in it, make or update the right ClickUp task, and reply to the client when the task moves. They flag tasks that are late.
- Good for
- Teams where most client requests come in on WhatsApp and work is tracked in ClickUp.
- Where it breaks
- Anything your rules keep for a person, like a complaint or a refund, goes to your team in one message with a reply ready.
How to set up the ClickUp WhatsApp integration with Zapier
These follow Zapier's and Meta's own pages. Open them for the screens.
- 1
Get a WhatsApp Business number on the APIZapier's WhatsApp Business trigger fires when a customer messages your WhatsApp Business number, so you need one. Meta says you can only message people who have opted in to hear from you.
- 2
Make a ClickUp list for incoming requestsCreate one list, with a status for new, in progress and done, and a custom field for the client's WhatsApp number so replies can find their way back.
- 3
Build the zap for new messages
In Zapier, start with WhatsApp Business New Message Received, then add ClickUp Create Task in your new list. Turn the zap on and send a real test message, since the test step shows only a placeholder.
- 4
Build the zap for replies
Start with ClickUp Task Changes, then send a WhatsApp message. Use Send Template Message if the client may not have written in the last 24 hours, with a template Meta has approved.
- 5
Check a week of chats by hand
Compare a week of WhatsApp chats with the tasks in your list. Look for requests that never became a task and tasks whose client never heard back.
Where the ClickUp WhatsApp integration stops
A zap moves one message at a time. The work in the middle is deciding what each message is. One chat can hold a new request, a question about last week's job and a thank you. People on ClickUp's feedback board ask for automation per message, not per chat, for that reason. A zap makes a task for all three, or for none, and someone still sorts them.
Replies have rules, the same ones that apply when you connect Pipedrive to WhatsApp. Meta's guide says a 24-hour customer service window opens when a customer messages you. After it closes, you can only send templates Meta has approved. So a task finished on day three can't just send a friendly note; it needs a template, and someone has to have set it up. Zapier's own page adds that a send that works doesn't prove the message was delivered.
Some chats never reach the zap. ClickUp users on the same board say they and many of their clients work from personal WhatsApp accounts. Zapier's trigger only fires for messages to a WhatsApp Business number, so chats on a personal phone are still copied in by hand. Requests that arrive by email have their own path, covered in the guide to connecting ClickUp to Outlook.
And nobody checks the loop. Neither ClickUp nor the zap tells you that a client asked for something on Tuesday and no task exists, or flags the tasks that are late, or that a task closed and the client was never told. ClickUp's product team says a direct WhatsApp link is not planned for the near term, so this gap stays with your team.
The agents that do it

Questions
Is my customers' information safe?
Yes. Agents work in your own ClickUp and WhatsApp Business account and see only what their job needs. Customer details never go into public AI. Agents connect to AI through business-grade connections audited under SOC 2.
Does ClickUp integrate with WhatsApp?
Not directly. ClickUp's product team says a direct WhatsApp integration is not planned for the near term. Teams connect them through Zapier's WhatsApp Business app or a similar service.
Can I create ClickUp tasks from WhatsApp messages?
Yes, with a zap. Zapier's WhatsApp Business New Message Received trigger can start ClickUp's Create Task action. Each message makes a task unless you add steps to group them.
Can ClickUp send WhatsApp notifications?
Through Zapier, yes. A ClickUp trigger like Task Changes can send a WhatsApp message. Outside 24 hours from the person's last message, Meta only allows approved templates.
What does it cost?
You get the price on the call, along with the hours it saves your team.
