Your Mailchimp list and your Trello board, telling the same story

MailchimpTrello
The short answer

The Mailchimp Trello integration comes in two kinds. Trello's own MailChimp Power-Up attaches a campaign or template to a card and shows the campaign's status and results there. A Zapier zap moves people: it can make a Trello card for each new subscriber, or add someone to your Mailchimp audience when their card moves to a list. Where it stops: the Power-Up only shows campaigns, it doesn't move contacts. A zap fails when a person has unsubscribed, and Mailchimp won't let you add them back yourself. Some steps run on a timer. Someone still checks who got added, who didn't, and why. AI agents do that work.

What a Mailchimp Trello integration has to do

Trello is where the team plans the work: the next campaign, the new client, the lead to call. Mailchimp is where the email goes out. When the two don't talk, someone copies an email address from a card into Mailchimp, then goes back to the card to write down how the email did.

So connected has to mean two things. The campaign on a card should show how it went without anyone pasting numbers. And people should land in the right Mailchimp audience, with the right tag, when their card moves, and drop out when they unsubscribe.

Ways to connect Mailchimp and Trello

The first is made by Trello. The second moves contacts and cards between the two.

Trello's MailChimp Power-Up

How it works
You turn on the MailChimp Power-Up for a board. On a card, you click the MailChimp button and attach a campaign or a template. The card then shows the campaign type, status, Mailchimp list name and, once it's sent, how it did, with a link to open it in Mailchimp.
Good for
Marketing teams that plan each campaign on a Trello card and want the result on the same card.
Where it breaks
Trello's guide says each person on the board has to link their own Mailchimp account. You attach campaigns by hand, from your 10 most recent or by search. It shows campaigns and templates; it doesn't add or update contacts.

A Zapier zap

How it works
Zapier's Mailchimp triggers include New Subscriber, New Unsubscriber, New Campaign and Link Clicked. Its Trello triggers include Card Moved to List, and its actions include Create Card. Mailchimp actions include Add/Update Subscriber and Add Subscriber to Tag.
Good for
A card for each new subscriber to follow up, or adding a client to an audience when their card moves to Signed.
Where it breaks
Zapier's page says New Campaign and Link Clicked are polling triggers that check every 15 minutes on the Free plan. In a Zapier Community thread, a zap that tried to update an unsubscribed contact failed with a Member In Compliance State error, and the fix was an extra search step and filter.

Arkeo agents

How it works
Agents add new people from your board to the right Mailchimp audience with the right tags, check their status first, and note on the card if someone can't be added and why. Each Monday they post each campaign's opens, clicks and unsubscribes to the campaign's card.
Good for
Teams that run clients or leads on Trello and send email to them from Mailchimp each week.
Where it breaks
Anything your rules keep for a person, like who goes on a list after they asked to leave, goes to the owner in one message.

How to add Mailchimp in Trello

Steps 1 to 3 follow Trello's guide for the Power-Up. Step 4 adds a zap if you also want contacts to move.

  1. 1

    Turn on the MailChimp Power-Up

Open the board menu, select Power-Ups and enable MailChimp for the board.

  2. 2

    Link your Mailchimp account

Open a card, click the MailChimp button, then Attach Campaign or Attach Template, and select Link Your MailChimp Account. Log in to Mailchimp. Each person on the board does this once.

  3. 3

Attach the campaign to its card

From the card's MailChimp button, attach a campaign from your 10 most recent, or type its name to find an older one. The card shows its status, and its results once sent.

  4. 4

Add a zap to move people

To add people when a card moves, start with Trello Card Moved to List and add a Mailchimp Add/Update Subscriber step. Put a Mailchimp search and a filter first, so the zap skips anyone who isn't subscribed.

Where the Mailchimp Trello integration stops

The Power-Up shows a campaign on a card, and a zap can move one person at a time. Keeping the list and the board in step is still a person's job.

The Power-Up doesn't move people. Trello's guide describes attaching campaigns and templates to cards and showing their stats. It doesn't add a contact, set a tag or show who unsubscribed. Each person on the board also has to link their own Mailchimp account before they can use it.

Unsubscribed people can't be added back. Mailchimp's help says a contact who unsubscribes through the link in your email has to sign up again on your signup form; you can't resubscribe them yourself. In a Zapier Community thread, a zap that tried to update an unsubscribed contact stopped with a Member In Compliance State error until someone added a search step and a filter.

Some steps run late. Zapier's page says the New Campaign and Link Clicked triggers check every 15 minutes on the Free plan.

A failed step doesn't show on the card. The card moves to Signed either way. Someone has to notice the error in Zapier, find the person who wasn't added, and decide what to do about them.

The agents that do it

Each agent does one job from start to finish, in your own Mailchimp and Trello. Your team talks to them in Slack or Teams.

Questions

Is my customers' information safe?

Yes. Agents work in your own Mailchimp and Trello and see only what their job needs. Customer details never go into public AI. Agents connect to AI through business-grade connections audited under SOC 2.

Is there a Mailchimp Power-Up for Trello?

Yes. Trello makes a MailChimp Power-Up. You enable it on a board, link your Mailchimp account, and attach campaigns or templates to cards. The card shows the campaign's status and results.

Can Trello add people to my Mailchimp list?

Not with the Power-Up. A Zapier zap can: start with Trello's Card Moved to List trigger and add a Mailchimp Add/Update Subscriber step. Add a search and a filter first so it skips people who unsubscribed.

Why does my zap fail with Member In Compliance State?

That person unsubscribed, bounced or is under review in Mailchimp. Mailchimp's help says people who unsubscribe themselves have to sign up again on your form. Add a filter so the zap only updates subscribed contacts.

What does it cost?

You get the price on the call, along with the hours it saves your team.
