Your Google Sheet and your Mailchimp audience, in agreement

MailchimpGoogle Sheets
The short answer

Mailchimp has no Mailchimp Google Sheets integration of its own. Its import page lists six connected apps, and Google Sheets isn't one; you copy and paste rows from a sheet, or upload a CSV file. To keep them connected, you add a Zapier zap that sends new rows to Mailchimp, or a Sheets add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace. Going the other way, Mailchimp exports your audience as CSV files. Where they stop: blank cells can erase contact details, people who unsubscribed in Mailchimp stay on the sheet, edits to old rows don't go over, and each export is rebuilt by hand. AI agents keep the two in agreement and send your team what needs a look.

What a Mailchimp Google Sheets integration has to do

Many businesses keep their contact list in a Google Sheet: sign-ups from an event, new customers, leads from a form. Mailchimp is where the email goes out from. When the two aren't linked, someone copies new rows into Mailchimp by hand, and the sheet and the audience slowly stop matching.

So connected has to mean both ways. New and changed rows reach Mailchimp, with tags, and with permission to email them. And what Mailchimp knows, like who unsubscribed, who bounced and who opened, comes back to the sheet your team works from.

Four ways to connect Mailchimp and Google Sheets

One is Mailchimp's own import and export. The others keep them connected after that.

Mailchimp's import and export

How it works
Mailchimp's import lets you copy and paste contacts from a spreadsheet like Google Sheets, or upload a CSV or TXT file with an Email Address column. You can tick Update any existing contacts. To go back to a sheet, you export the audience as CSV.
Good for
A one-time move, like loading a sheet of event sign-ups.
Where it breaks
Mailchimp says blank fields overwrite and erase contact details on an update, and imports skip duplicate, bounced and unsubscribed addresses. Only Owners and Admins can export, and an export can come as a ZIP with a separate CSV for each kind of contact.

A Zapier zap

How it works
Zapier's template Copy contacts from new Google Sheets rows to Mailchimp and tag them starts on New Spreadsheet Row and runs Add/Update Subscriber in the audience you set.
Good for
A sheet that only grows, like a form that adds a row for each sign-up.
Where it breaks
Zapier says the trigger fires when a row is added to the bottom of the sheet, so fixes to older rows don't go over. In Zapier's community, users report that updating a contact who unsubscribed fails with a Member In Compliance State error.

Sync for Google Sheets and Mailchimp

How it works
An add-on on the Google Workspace Marketplace. Its listing says it adds and updates Mailchimp contacts from a sheet, maps columns to Mailchimp fields, carries GDPR permissions, and pulls campaign reports, by hand or on a schedule.
Good for
Teams who want the sync and the campaign numbers inside the sheet.
Where it breaks
The listing shows no written reviews and doesn't say how often a scheduled sync runs, so test it on a copy of your audience first.

Arkeo agents

How it works
Agents read new and changed rows in your sheet, add or update the contact and tags in Mailchimp, write unsubscribes and bounces back to the sheet, pull each campaign's opens and clicks into it, and send your team rows that need a look.
Good for
Businesses that run their list from a Google Sheet and send from Mailchimp, with nobody free to keep them matched.
Where it breaks
A row with no sign of permission, or a contact who unsubscribed, goes to your team in one message instead of into Mailchimp.

How to connect Mailchimp to Google Sheets

These follow Mailchimp's and Zapier's own pages. Open them for the screens.

  1. 1

    Get the sheet ready

Keep one row per person, with an Email Address column and one column per Mailchimp field. Add a column that says how each person agreed to get your email.

  2. 2

    Import the sheet into Mailchimp

In Mailchimp, start an import to your audience and use the copy and paste option. Paste the rows, match each column to a field, and add tags. Tick Update any existing contacts only if no cells are blank.

  3. 3

Send new rows with a zap

In Zapier, start from the Copy contacts from new Google Sheets rows to Mailchimp and tag them template. Set the sheet, the audience and the tags, and test it with one new row.

  4. 4

    Or add the Sheets add-on

Install Sync for Google Sheets and Mailchimp, open your sheet, and use its side panel to connect Mailchimp, map the columns and run a sync.

  5. 5

Bring Mailchimp's list back to the sheet

In Mailchimp, go to Audience and export it. When the email says it's ready, download the CSV files and import them into a tab of your sheet.

Where the Mailchimp Google Sheets integration stops

Each route copies contacts from the sheet into Mailchimp. The work left is keeping the two right after that, and getting Mailchimp's side back.

Imports are a copy, not a link. Copy and paste or a CSV moves the rows you have today. Next week's new rows need another import. And Mailchimp warns that on an update, blank fields overwrite and erase the details already saved, so one empty column can wipe a field across your audience.

Unsubscribes don't come back. When someone unsubscribes in Mailchimp, the sheet still lists them. Mailchimp's import skips them, and Mailchimp says people who unsubscribed themselves can only come back through your signup form. In Zapier's community, users who update contacts from a sheet report a Member In Compliance State error for each of them, and have to build a search and a filter to skip them.

Edits to old rows stay behind. Zapier's template starts on a row added to the bottom of the sheet. A fixed email or a new tag on an older row needs a second zap. In the same Zapier thread, a user found an update zap firing again and again because formulas in the sheet kept recalculating.

Results come back by hand. Only Owners and Admins can export an audience. The export arrives by email, sometimes as a ZIP with a separate file for subscribed, unsubscribed and cleaned contacts, and someone puts those files back into the sheet. Mailchimp also asks that you have permission to email each subscribed contact, and a sheet doesn't check that for you.

The agents that do it

Each agent does one job from start to finish, in your own Mailchimp and Google Sheets. Your team talks to them in Slack or Teams.

Questions

Is my customers' information safe?

Yes. Agents work in your own Mailchimp and Google Sheets and see only what their job needs. Customer details never go into public AI. Agents connect to AI through business-grade connections audited under SOC 2.

Does Mailchimp integrate with Google Sheets?

Not with an app of its own. Mailchimp's import lets you copy and paste contacts from Google Sheets or upload a CSV file. Zapier and add-ons from the Google Workspace Marketplace keep the two connected.

Can I import contacts from Google Sheets to Mailchimp?

Yes. Copy the rows from your sheet and paste them into Mailchimp's import, or save the sheet as a CSV file and upload it. You need an Email Address column, and permission to email each contact.

Can I export Mailchimp contacts to Google Sheets?

Yes. Export your audience from Mailchimp as CSV, then import the files into your sheet. Only Owners and Admins can export, and the file may come as a ZIP with one CSV for each kind of contact.

What does it cost?
