The main Jira Microsoft Teams integration is Atlassian's free Jira Cloud app, which you add from the Teams app store. Service desk teams can also add the Jira Service Management app for alerts, and Zapier or Power Automate can run one rule at a time. Where it stops: no notice goes out for locked work items, channel messages have stopped for weeks with no warning, and none of these notice a ticket that sits with no one moving it. AI agents watch the tickets, chase the owner in Teams, and report what's late.
Why a Jira Microsoft Teams integration matters
Your team talks in Teams. The work lives in Jira. With no link between them, people ask about a ticket in chat, someone opens Jira to check, and the answer goes back by hand.
So a good connection does two things. It puts the right Jira updates in front of the right people, without flooding a channel. And it keeps each ticket moving, so when one sits too long, someone hears about it.
Three ways to connect Jira and Teams
Two come from Atlassian, and one you build yourself.
The Jira Cloud app for Teams
- How it works
- Atlassian's own free app. You add it from the Teams app store and sign in to Atlassian. Then you can search work items, turn a message into a work item, get your own Jira notices, and send a space's updates to a channel.
- Good for
- Teams that want Jira updates where they talk.
- Where it breaks
- Your Teams admin may have to allow it, and it must be added to each channel or meeting. In a channel it only answers when someone types @Jira. Atlassian says no Teams notice goes out for work items with security limits. Its Atlassian Marketplace page has 17 reviews averaging 2.3 out of 5.
The Jira Service Management app
- How it works
- Atlassian's ChatOps app sends Jira Service Management alerts to a Teams channel. People can acknowledge, close, assign or add a note to an alert from the channel.
- Good for
- IT and support teams on call who need alerts in Teams.
- Where it breaks
- It works in standard channels only, not private ones. On the Free and Standard plans it only covers one team's alerts. You can't move it to another channel; you reset it, and alerts stop until you set it up again.
Zapier or Power Automate
- How it works
- Zapier has ready-made zaps, like updating a Teams channel message when a Jira issue changes. Microsoft's Power Automate has a Jira connector that starts a flow when an issue is made or closed.
- Good for
- One simple rule, like posting new bugs from one project to one channel.
- Where it breaks
- Zapier checks for new Jira data every 15 minutes on its Free plan. Power Automate's Jira connector is Premium. Microsoft's page says its make-an-issue action fails when a project has some kinds of required fields, and a flow that worked can start failing when the Jira API key expires.
Arkeo agents
- How it works
- Agents read your Jira tickets, owners and due dates, post what each team needs to know in its Teams channel, message the owner when a ticket has sat too long, and add a comment on the ticket so the history is in Jira.
- Good for
- Teams where tickets slip because nobody has the time to chase them.
- Where it breaks
- Anything your rules keep for a person, like a change of priority or closing a ticket, goes to your team in one message.
How to set up the Jira Cloud app in Teams
Atlassian's pages have the full screens, linked under each step.
- 1
Ask your Teams admin firstIf you can't find Jira Cloud in the Teams app store, your Teams admin has to allow it.
- 2
Add the app and connect your siteInstall Jira Cloud from the Teams app store and sign in to Atlassian. If you have more than one Jira site, select the one you use.
- 3
Set up your own noticesEnter Notifications in the Jira Cloud chat, then Change notifications. In Jira, turn down the matching emails so you don't get each one twice.
- 4
Send a space's updates to a channel
Add the Jira Cloud app to the channel. Enter @Jira, select Jira Cloud, enter Notifications, and follow the prompts.
- 5
Test it with one ticket
Turn one Teams message into a work item from the message menu. Check it shows up in Jira with the right owner.
Where the Jira Microsoft Teams integration stops
Some updates never reach Teams. Atlassian's guide says no Teams notice goes out for work items with security limits. In a channel or meeting, the app has to be added first and only answers when someone types @Jira.
Channel messages can stop with no warning. In a thread on Atlassian's community, many teams said Jira stopped posting to their Teams channels from about January 9, 2023, while direct chats still worked. Atlassian said the cause was on Microsoft's side, and the messages took about four weeks to come back. Later posters found their notices had been turned off and had to reinstall the app, and more people reported the same problem in 2025.
Written reviews are few and mixed. On the Atlassian Marketplace, 17 reviews average 2.3 out of 5, and recent ones say notices ignore a space's settings or don't work. The Teams store shows 4.5 stars from about 8,800 ratings. Either way, chasing is still done by hand: someone notices which tickets went quiet and messages each owner.
