Your sales, ad spend and profit in one place, and checked

Triple WhaleShopify
The short answer

Triple Whale is an analytics and attribution app for Shopify stores. You install it from the Shopify App Store, connect your store and ad accounts, add the Triple Pixel to your theme, and enter your costs. It then shows sales, ad spend and profit on one Summary page, and which ads led to each order. Where it stops: profit is only right if your shipping and other costs are kept up to date, its daily numbers won't match Shopify when orders are edited or refunded, and a setup success message doesn't prove tracking works. AI agents check the costs and the numbers each day and send what needs a person to your team.

What Triple Whale does for a Shopify store

Shopify knows your orders. Meta, Google and TikTok each know their own ad spend, and each one claims credit for sales. None of them knows your profit, because none of them has your product costs, shipping and fees together. So owners end up building a spreadsheet each morning to see if yesterday made money.

Triple Whale for Shopify puts those numbers in one place. Its Shopify App Store listing says it covers attribution, profit insights, ROAS, cohort and lifetime value reports, custom dashboards, and a pixel that tracks what shoppers do on your site. It also has Moby, an AI helper for ad accounts, and Automations for recurring jobs. The listing says it works with Facebook, Google Ads, TikTok, Klaviyo, Recharge and Gorgias.

How to set up Triple Whale on Shopify

Five steps, in our words, from Triple Whale's onboarding guide. Each one links to Triple Whale's own page for the full screens.

  1. 1

Create your account and connect your store

Create your Triple Whale account, then on Connect your store, select Shopify and enter your business details. Click Get started, then Connect to Shopify, check that Shopify opens the right store, review the access Triple Whale asks for and click Install.

  2. 2

    Connect your ad accounts

Click Connect on each ad platform's card, like Meta, and approve the prompts. Back in Triple Whale, set the business account, review the attribution window and click Save. Triple Whale says a loading message alone doesn't confirm the connection.

  3. 3

    Install the Triple Pixel

For a standard Shopify store, select Hosted by Shopify / Standard and Standard Shopify Checkout, click Save Setup, then Enable Triple Pixel. In the Shopify theme editor, check the Triple Pixel app embed is on and click Save. Headless stores and outside landing pages need extra steps.

  4. 4

    Turn on the post-purchase survey

Click Install Post-Purchase Survey & Continue, finish the checkout install for your store and click Activate Survey. Then place a test order, because Triple Whale says the success message doesn't show the survey on a real checkout.

    Add your costs

Go to Settings, then Cost Settings. Product costs come in from the Cost per item field in Shopify. Add shipping costs, payment gateway fees and custom expenses, like spend on an ad channel Triple Whale doesn't connect to.

How Triple Whale works with your Shopify data

Orders, refunds and product costs come from Shopify once the store is connected. Triple Whale's cost guide says Cost per item from Shopify is imported on its own. Editing a cost in Triple Whale doesn't change Shopify unless you turn on Bi-Directional COGs. Triple Whale keeps a history of each cost, so old orders keep the cost they had at the time.

Shipping is where you have the most setup. Triple Whale gives you a few ways to set it: use what customers paid for shipping, connect ShipStation or ShipBob, upload a file of order numbers and shipping costs, or build shipping profiles by country and weight. When more than one is set, its help page lists which one wins.

For ads, Triple Whale pulls spend from the ad accounts you connect and matches it to orders the Triple Pixel saw. For a channel with no connection, you add the spend as a custom expense and tie it to that traffic source, so it still shows up in your reports.

Triple Whale's Shopify App Store listing shows a Free plan and paid Foundation and Automate plans. It has a 4.1 rating from 94 reviews.

Where Triple Whale stops: what is still done by hand

Triple Whale puts the numbers in one place. Its own help pages are clear about the work it leaves to your team.

Profit is only as right as your costs. Shipping costs come from a shipping app, a file you upload, or profiles you keep up to date as carrier rates change. Triple Whale says an order whose weight doesn't fit one of your profiles gets no shipping cost at all. Its FAQ also says Net Profit can show zero when a payment gateway fee has no number in it. The onboarding guide warns you to finish costs before you trust the profit numbers.

Daily numbers won't match Shopify. Triple Whale says that when an order is edited, Shopify books the change on the day it happens, while Triple Whale puts the new total on the day of the first order. Refunds can sit on the order date in one report and the refund date in another, and exchanges made in a returns app like Loop can net out to no refund at all. Over a month it mostly evens out. On a Monday morning, the numbers in Shopify, Triple Whale and your books disagree, and someone has to explain why.

Other programs count differently too. Triple Whale's help says sessions in Google Analytics 4 will almost always differ from Triple Whale's, by design, and a revenue gap with GA4 needed a disconnect and reconnect to fix.

A success message is not a test. The onboarding guide says the pixel success message doesn't check each event or checkout page, the survey message doesn't show the survey on a real checkout, and zero values on the Summary page don't prove tracking works. Someone has to place test orders and check.

Help can be slow. About 18% of Triple Whale's reviews in the Shopify App Store are 1 star, and most of the low reviews from the past two years say support was slow to answer or hard to reach.

The agents that take it over

Each agent does one job from start to finish, in your own Triple Whale and Shopify: it reads the numbers, checks costs against what you really paid, and sends your team the few things that need a person.
