The main Slack integration with Zendesk is built by Zendesk. It posts ticket alerts in Slack, lets your team make tickets from a message, and lets agents ask a Slack channel for help from inside a ticket. A Zapier zap is the other way. Where it stops: a reply under a ticket alert stays in Slack unless someone adds it to the ticket, only Zendesk admins can set up alerts, and nothing reads a ticket and decides who should see it. AI agents do that sorting, and follow up when a customer has waited too long.
Why a Slack integration with Zendesk matters
Your support team lives in Zendesk. Everyone else lives in Slack. When a customer asks something only sales or a developer can answer, someone copies the ticket into Slack, waits, and copies the reply back.
So "connected" has to mean two things. The tickets that matter reach the right people in Slack, with enough detail to act. And what people say in Slack makes it back onto the ticket, so the history stays in one place.
Three ways to connect Slack and Zendesk
Two are built by Zendesk, and one is from Zapier.
Zendesk's Slack integration
- How it works
- An admin connects a Slack workspace in Zendesk's Admin Center, then builds triggers that post ticket alerts to the Slack channels you set. Your team can make a ticket from any Slack message, or with /zendesk, and add internal notes from Slack.
- Good for
- Teams that want ticket alerts in Slack and an easy way for staff to raise a ticket.
- Where it breaks
- Only Zendesk admins can build the alert triggers, and the app must be added to each channel first. A reply under an alert stays in Slack unless someone adds it to the ticket as an internal note. A trigger posts each ticket that fits its rules, angry or routine.
Side conversations in Slack
- How it works
- A support person starts a Slack thread from inside a ticket, and replies come back to the ticket.
- Good for
- Support teams that often need a quick answer from another team to close a ticket.
- Where it breaks
- It needs the Professional plan or higher, or the Collaboration add-on. Replies don't come back when the channel is shared across workspaces, and direct messages aren't supported. A person has to start each one, and nothing chases a reply that never came.
A Zapier zap
- How it works
- Zapier has ready-made zaps that send a Slack message for each new Zendesk ticket, or make a Zendesk ticket from a new Slack message.
- Good for
- Small teams with one simple rule, like posting each new ticket to one channel.
- Where it breaks
- Zendesk is a Premium app on Zapier, and its triggers check every 15 minutes on the Free plan. A zap moves fields; it doesn't read the ticket and judge how urgent it is.
Arkeo agents
- How it works
- Agents read each new ticket in Zendesk, tag it, give it to the right person, and post the urgent ones to the right Slack channel. They check open tickets each hour and nudge the owner when one has waited too long.
- Good for
- Teams that get more tickets than they can sort by hand.
- Where it breaks
- Anything your rules keep for a person, like a refund over a set size or a legal question, goes to your lead in one message.
How to set up the Zendesk integration with Slack
You need to be a Zendesk admin and be allowed to add apps in Slack. Zendesk's pages have the full screens.
- 1
Connect your Slack workspaceIn Admin Center, go to Apps and integrations, then Integrations. Open Slack, click Connect workspace, check the workspace name, and click Allow.
- 2
Add the Zendesk app to your channelsIn Slack, add the Zendesk app to each channel that should get alerts. A channel won't show up in Zendesk until the app is in it.
- 3
Build a trigger for each channelUnder Business rules, then Triggers, add a ticket trigger with your conditions and the action Notify Zendesk integration, then Slack integration. Set the channel.
- 4
Write a short alert
Keep the header and body short: the subject, the customer and the status. Use <!here> only for alerts the whole channel must see.
- 5
Show your team how to make ticketsPeople can type /zendesk, or use a message's More actions menu, then Create a ticket. These tickets get the created_from_slack tag, so you can build a view for them.
Where the Zendesk Slack integration stops
What's said in Slack doesn't land on the ticket by itself. Zendesk's guide says you add an internal note from Slack one message at a time, from the alert's thread. Side conversations do bring replies back, but not from channels shared across workspaces, and agents in Zendesk's own forum say they have to open each ticket to see whether Slack answered.
Alerts are an admin's job. Zendesk says you must be an admin to build Slack triggers, and an admin only sees a private channel in the list if they're in it. Under the triggers page, which has over 150 comments, people asked for a way to stop thread replies also posting to the channel. Zendesk's reply, quoted there in 2025, says there is no way to limit it yet. Zendesk also warns that if Slack's Approve apps setting is off, someone reinstalling the app can break the integration.
Public reviews of the app are thin; most of what people say is in the comments under Zendesk's own help pages. So the sorting stays with a person: reading each ticket, deciding who should see it, and checking back on the ones that went quiet.

Questions
Is my customers' information safe?
Yes. Agents work in your own Zendesk and Slack and see only what their job needs. Customer details never go into public AI. Agents connect to AI through business-grade connections audited under SOC 2.
Does Zendesk have a Slack integration?
Yes. Slack for Zendesk Support is built by Zendesk and works on the Team plan and up. It posts ticket alerts through triggers and lets people make tickets and add internal notes from Slack. Side conversations in Slack need the Professional plan or higher, or the Collaboration add-on.
Can I make a Zendesk ticket from a Slack message?
Yes. Hover over the message, click More actions, then Create a ticket. The message text fills in the description. You can also type /zendesk in a channel.
Can customers make tickets in Slack?
In a Slack Connect channel, people outside your company can mention @zendesk to make a ticket.
What does it cost?
You get the price on the call, along with the hours it saves your team.
