Deal talk in Slack, deal records right in Salesforce

SlackSalesforce
The short answer

The Slack integration with Salesforce comes from Salesforce itself. Its apps for Slack let your team search and edit records, get alerts in channels, and talk about a deal in a Salesforce channel tied to that record. Zapier covers moves the apps don't. Where it stops: alerts are tied to the person who set them up, notes, tasks and events don't show in Slack record layouts, and a decision made in a thread never reaches the deal unless someone types it in. AI agents read the talk, update the record and chase what's open.

What a Slack integration with Salesforce has to do

Your team talks about deals in Slack all day. The deal itself lives in Salesforce. When the two don't meet, a rep says "they signed" in a channel and the deal still shows the old stage, or a manager asks in Slack for a number someone has to look up and paste back.

A good connection runs both ways. Salesforce changes show up in Slack where people will see them, and what gets decided in Slack ends up on the record: the new close date, the next step, who owns the reply.

Three ways to connect Slack and Salesforce

Salesforce builds the first two. Slack's own help page says the older app built by Slack is no longer supported.

Salesforce apps for Slack

How it works
A Salesforce admin sets up the Slack app inside Salesforce, then each person adds the Salesforce app in Slack and connects their account. They can search and view records, send a record to a channel, and set alerts for their own records, one record, or a whole record type.
Good for
Teams who want Salesforce changes to show up in Slack and quick lookups without opening Salesforce.
Where it breaks
Slack's help page says alerts post as messages from the person who set them up, and stop when that person is turned off in Slack. Salesforce's own limits page says notes, tasks and events aren't supported in Slack record layouts.

Salesforce channels

How it works
A Slack channel tied to one Salesforce record, like an account or deal. It has a Messages tab for the talk and a details tab where people can see and change the record's fields from Slack.
Good for
Teams who work big deals or key accounts together and want the talk and the record side by side.
Where it breaks
Slack's help page says rich text fields can't be edited in Slack and outside people can't be invited to these channels. Slack owners and admins have to set them up before anyone can use them.

Zapier

How it works
You build Zaps that start on a Salesforce event, like New Record or Updated Field on Record, and post a Slack message. Or start on a Slack event, like New Pushed Message, and create a Salesforce record.
Good for
One or two moves the Salesforce apps don't cover, like a custom message when a big deal closes.
Where it breaks
Each Zap does one move you build and keep working. It posts or creates. It doesn't read the thread or decide what the update should be.

Arkeo agents

How it works
Agents read the deal talk in the Slack channels you add them to, update the Salesforce record with the stage, close date and next step, and post what changed. They chase open next steps in Slack until someone answers.
Good for
Sales teams who live in Slack and need Salesforce to match what was said.
Where it breaks
Anything your rules keep for a person, like closing a deal as won or changing the amount, goes to the deal owner to confirm in one message.

Set up the Salesforce Slack integration: five steps

Salesforce's and Slack's own guides have the full screens. These are the parts, in order.

  1. 1

Have your Salesforce admin go first

A Salesforce admin installs and sets up the Slack app inside Salesforce, including which objects and permissions it uses. Slack's guide says members should check this is done before they start.

  2. 2

Add the Salesforce app to your Slack workspace

From the app's page in the Slack Marketplace, click Add to Slack and follow the prompts. On an Enterprise plan, admins can install it once for the whole org and add it to each workspace.

  3. 3

Have each person connect their account

In the Slack sidebar, click Apps, find the Salesforce app, and follow the prompt to log in to Salesforce. Use Custom Domain if your company has its own Salesforce login address, then click Allow.

  4. 4

Set up alerts in the right channels

Use My Alerts for records you own, Channel Alerts for one record, and Bulk Alerts for a record type. Set team alerts from a shared account if you can, since they post as the person who made them.

  5. 5

Open Salesforce channels for your key deals

Once your Slack owners and admins have set them up, create a Salesforce channel from any record that appears in Slack. Check the details tab to see which fields people can change from Slack.

What the Slack Salesforce integration leaves to people

These apps bring Salesforce into Slack. The work left is getting what was said in Slack back into Salesforce, and keeping the alerts going.

Alerts belong to one person. Slack's help page says Salesforce alerts post as messages from the person who set them up, stop when that person is turned off in Slack, and need an admin to reconnect Salesforce after an account is disconnected. In Salesforce's community, a person who built a Slack post from Salesforce asked why they never got a notice for it. The reply: the post came from them, so only others were told. When that rep leaves, their alerts go with them.

Not all of the record comes over. Salesforce's limits page says notes, tasks and events aren't supported in Slack record layouts, and fields on a large record can be cut off with a prompt to open Salesforce. Slack's page says rich text fields can't be edited from a Salesforce channel, and customers can't be invited into one.

And the thread doesn't update the deal. A rep writes "pushed to next month" in the channel, and the close date stays where it was until someone opens the details tab and changes it. Nobody chases the next step that was promised in a thread last Tuesday.

The agents that do it

Each agent does one job from start to finish in your own Salesforce, and talks with your team in Slack.

Questions

Is my customers' information safe?

Yes. Agents work in your own Slack and Salesforce and see only what their job needs. Customer details never go into public AI. Agents connect to AI through business-grade connections audited under SOC 2.

Does Salesforce have a Slack integration?

Yes. Salesforce builds its own apps for Slack, including Sales Cloud for Slack and Salesforce channels. Slack's help page says the older Salesforce app built by Slack is no longer supported, and points people to the Salesforce-built apps.

Why did my Salesforce alerts in Slack stop?

Slack's help page says alerts stop when the person who set them up is turned off in Slack. After someone disconnects and reconnects their account, a Salesforce admin has to reconnect Slack inside Salesforce, and then the alerts are set up again.

Can I update Salesforce from Slack?

Yes. You can edit records you have access to from Slack, and Salesforce channels have a details tab for the record's fields. Rich text fields can't be edited there, and notes, tasks and events aren't supported in Slack record layouts.

What does it cost?

You get the price on the call, along with the hours it saves your team.
