monday.com has no built-in two-way monday Google Sheets integration. It can import a Google Sheet once as a new board, up to 3,000 rows and 20 columns, and it can export a board to an Excel file you open in Google Sheets. To keep them linked after that, teams use Zapier or an app from the monday marketplace. Where they stop: the import and export are one-time copies, a zap only adds rows unless you build the matching yourself, and nobody is told when the sheet and the board stop agreeing. AI agents keep the two matched and flag what's off.
What a monday Google Sheets integration has to do
Your team runs its work on a monday.com board. But the numbers often live in a Google Sheet: the client list someone built years ago, the budget the owner checks, the weekly report that goes to the bank. So someone copies status updates from the board into the sheet, or new rows from the sheet onto the board, every week.
So a working monday Google Sheets integration does more than move a list once. New items on the board show up in the sheet, changes to a status or a date reach the other side, and no row turns into two items. When the two disagree, someone hears about it before the report goes out.
Four ways to connect monday.com and Google Sheets
The first two are built into monday.com. The others keep them linked over time.
Import a Google Sheet as a board
- How it works
- From your profile icon, select Import Data, then Google Sheets, sign in to Google, and select the file. monday.com makes a new board from it and asks you to set the header row, the first column and each column's type.
- Good for
- Moving a project or client list off a spreadsheet and onto monday.com once.
- Where it breaks
- monday's help says the import stops at 3,000 rows and 20 columns, and you import one tab at a time. Adding rows to a board that already exists means pasting items under New Item, which adds items only and doesn't map your columns.
Export a board to Excel
- How it works
- From the three-dot menu on the board, select More actions, then Export board to Excel, and open the file in Google Sheets. You can export the main table, groups, or selected items, with or without updates and subitems.
- Good for
- A one-time snapshot for a report, an accountant or a client, the same way teams move Excel files into Google Sheets.
- Where it breaks
- monday's help says you can't change how the export is laid out, only table views export, and subitem updates don't come across. The file is out of date the next time someone changes the board.
A Zapier zap
- How it works
- monday's own help shows a Zapier zap that creates a monday item for each new Google Sheets row. Zapier also has triggers the other way, like New Item in Board or Specific Column Value Changed in Board, that add or update rows in a sheet.
- Good for
- One direction, one board, one sheet: like logging each new board item as a row for a report.
- Where it breaks
- Zapier's Updated Spreadsheet Row trigger only fires for rows that already existed, so new and changed rows need separate zaps. Keeping rows from doubling means building your own lookup, and Zapier's row lookup finds up to 500 rows.
An app from the monday marketplace
- How it works
- Apps sold in the monday marketplace, such as Google Sheets Connector, sync a board and a sheet on a schedule, matching rows to items by an ID column.
- Good for
- Teams that want a sheet and a board to update each other on a timetable.
- Where it breaks
- It is one more paid app to own. monday's help says actions used by any monday app count toward your monthly automation actions, and the Standard plan includes 250.
Arkeo agents
- How it works
- Agents read your monday.com board and your Google Sheet each day, add and update the rows that changed, find items that appear twice or not at all, and fill in the weekly numbers your report needs. They also chase the late items on the board, so the sheet shows real progress.
- Good for
- Teams that run work on monday.com but still report from a sheet, and lose hours each week copying between them.
- Where it breaks
- Anything your rules keep for a person, like a row that two people changed on the same day, goes to your team in one message.
How to connect monday.com to Google Sheets
Four steps, in our words, using monday's import first and Zapier to keep them linked. monday's own guides have the screens.
- 1
Tidy the sheet firstKeep one header row and one tab per board, and trim it to 3,000 rows and 20 columns. Add a column with a unique ID if you plan to keep the two in step.
- 2
Import it as a boardIn monday.com, click your profile icon, select Import Data, then Google Sheets. Sign in, select the file, click Let's customize your new board, set the header row, first column and column types, then Create Board.
- 3
Link them with a zap
In Zapier, set a Google Sheets row trigger and a monday.com Create Item action, or the other way around. Connect each account, test the trigger, fill in the item details, and click Publish.
- 4
Export when you need a snapshotFor a one-time report, open the board's three-dot menu, select More actions, then Export board to Excel, and bring the file into Google Sheets.
Where the monday Google Sheets integration stops
The built-in parts are copies, not links. monday's import makes a new board, stops at 3,000 rows and 20 columns, and takes one tab at a time. Adding to an existing board is a paste that doesn't map your columns. The export can't be changed, leaves out board views and subitem updates, and is out of date the moment someone moves an item. Even the maker of a monday marketplace sync app, writing on monday's community site, calls the export a one-off file that's out of date as soon as the board changes.
A zap moves rows; it doesn't keep them matched. Zapier's Updated Spreadsheet Row trigger skips new rows, so you need one zap for new rows and another for changes. Nothing stops the same row from becoming two items. On Zapier's community, one team trying to catch duplicate monday leads planned to copy each item into a sheet, just so new leads could be checked against it and marked Duplicate.
Volume adds up too. monday's help says marketplace app actions count toward your monthly automation actions, and once the limit is used up, automations pause after a short grace period. And when a zap or an app fails, the sheet just stops changing; nobody gets a message.
So someone still opens both, line by line, before the Monday meeting. The same work shows up when teams connect ClickUp to Google Sheets.
The agents that do it
Each agent does one job from start to finish, in your own monday.com and Google Sheets. Your team talks to them in Slack or Teams.
Nothing sits on a board with no one on it.
- Checks your boards for late items and items with no ownerevery morning
- Asks the owner for an update on the itemright away
- Sends the lead what's at riskevery Friday
Bad entries fixed before the report goes out.
- Checks sheets for blanks, repeats and odd numbersevery day
- Marks the rows that need a lookper row
- Tells the person who owns the sheetsame day
Clients stop asking "where are we?"
- Pulls what got done and what's nextevery Friday
- Writes a short update per clientper client
- Sends it, or gives it to the owner to checkFriday afternoon
Questions
Is my customers' information safe?
Yes. Agents work in your own monday.com and Google Sheets and see only what their job needs. Customer details never go into public AI. Agents connect to AI through business-grade connections audited under SOC 2.
Does monday.com have a Google Sheets integration?
monday.com can import a Google Sheet as a new board and export a board to Excel. Its help center has no built-in two-way Google Sheets link, and its own Zapier guide uses Google Sheets as the example for linking the two.
How many rows can I import from Google Sheets into monday.com?
monday's help says up to 3,000 rows and 20 columns. Larger sheets are cut off at that limit, and each tab is imported on its own.
Can monday.com update my Google Sheet automatically?
Not on its own. A Zapier zap or a marketplace app can add or update rows when a board item changes. You build the matching so rows don't double.
What does it cost?
You get the price on the call, along with the hours it saves your team.
